It's easy to get overwhelmed by all the different marketing activities you should be doing. Blogging, emailing, newsletter, social media, video... the list goes on.
But the truth is, you can't do them all.

What is content marketing?
Content is one of those daft terms that the marketing industry likes to use. You could just as easily say 'stuff'. It includes blog posts, social media posts, emails, podcasts, infographics, newsletter articles, videos, webinars, and so on.
How to know which marketing focus to choose
It’s actually simpler than you might think.
Choose the two that you’re most comfortable with. You want to pick a major and minor.
That could be blog and Instagram. Or a newsletter and Facebook.
The major will feed into the minor. So, for example, you might write helpful articles/blog posts as your major. These will be shared on your Facebook feed (your minor), along with simpler, quick image and text posts.

Why content marketing is effective
Obviously, your content appears to those you’re trying to reach from time to time. Which means your company stays front of mind.
But also, by having a regularly updated website and social media, you’re much more likely to appear in search results. So, when someone googles for care business near them, there you are! Those folks whose lovely updates they see from time to time.

How this is working for one home care business
Last week I met with the owner of a domiciliary care business (shout out to Dan!)
I was taken by the stories he told. Stories of his mind-bogglingly good staff retention rate. Stories about clients who came back because of the quality of their care.
He had a natural gift for talking about his home care business that's quite rare.
As a result, wisely, he's recently begun sharing videos telling these kinds of stories. Simple selfie videos. Nothing flash – just authentic and in-the-moment.
He shares these on YouTube (major). Then he also posts them on Facebook (minor), along with other non-video posts. He may also put the best ones on his website.

Content marketing is simple – but not easy
To stand out doesn’t take blindingly brilliant marketing strategy. It’s about simply being disciplined. Marketing compounds over time.
It’s like keeping fit. We all know what to do – regular exercise two or three times a week. But how many of us do it?
Here’s to those who stick at it.
